Bite-Size PD: Executive Function and ADHD

  • Presented by Megan Ragan, MSW, LCSW
  • Description: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder— four words that were not on the radar of most educators just 20 years ago. In 2022, many educators agree that one of the single greatest challenges they face is learning how to support students with ADHD in a way that fosters real learning and growth. While this is a complex issue requiring a multifaceted solution, evidence has shown that there are strategies and tools that can support students with ADHD while not overextending the workload of the teacher. Most of these strategies focus on the growth and development of a child’s executive functioning, a common but crucial set of skills. This session will define executive functioning (as it relates to both neurotypical and neurodivergent brains) as well as discuss its associated skills and competencies. Additionally, this session will provide activities and tools that can be adapted to support the executive functioning of all students regardless age or ability.
